On Thursday 13 June at the Lees Cliff hotel, Folkestone, Heart of Kent Hospice was named ‘Kent Care Charity of the Year’ at the Kent Charity Awards.
The Awards, now in their fifth year recognise the outstanding contribution charities and voluntary groups undertake to make the lives of others better, across Kent. This year Heart of Kent Hospice was delighted to be crowned Kent Care Charity 2019. The award was given in recognition of the expert and personalised end-of- life care they provide to patients with a terminal illness and their families in the local community.
On receiving the award Sarah Pugh, Chief Executive said, “I’m very fortunate that I regularly receive letters from the friends and family of the loved ones we care for, thanking us for the difference we have made at a very difficult time in their lives. I am incredibly proud of our professional and dedicated team of colleagues and volunteers who are committed to providing outstanding care and support to patients, families and carers, across every part of the Hospice. As a charity reliant on the generosity of our local communities, I would like to thank all our supporters who enable us to continue to provide our specialist care while, each year we see demand for our services grow.”
Hospice patient Paula has been receiving support from the Hospice for the past year, since being diagnosed with a brain tumour. She says, “If anyone had told me a year ago I’d be going to the Hospice and doing all these things I’ve done I’d have never believed them. I’m so chuffed the amazing work of the Hospice that I know so well, has been recognised by others.”
