Last Wednesday Elmer the Patchwork Elephant was out exploring Maidstone. Elmer was being photographed in various locations around the town as part of Elmer’s Big Heart of Kent Parade, coming to our beautiful County town next summer.

Elmer moved across the town in a matching patchwork Raptor – a brand new super pick up, that Haynes Ford Maidstone have wrapped in a patchwork vinyl and loaned Heart of Kent Hospice for the next year. Andrew Haynes, Chairman and Managing Director of Haynes Ford presented Heart of Kent Hospice with the keys and said,

“We are delighted to be able to support Heart of Kent Hospice and the community of Maidstone in this exciting project with this new Ford Raptor 4 x 4 which means Elmer and his friends will now be able to go anywhere.”

Elmer really is a much-loved and popular character – while on his travels, he bumped into people of all ages, who wanted to hug, photograph and share their Elmer memories.

Later in the afternoon when Elmer reached the Archbishops Palace, he was joined by the Parade’s Official Partners. The Partners are a range of local businesses with expertise and resources, which will enhance specific aspects of the walking trail.

If you see Elmer and the Raptor on their travels - please feel free to give us a wave, a toot and post your photos on our social media @elmermaidstone – using the hashtag #elmermaidstone.

If you want to learn more about Elmer’s Big Heart of Kent Parade - we’ve a limited number of Elmer sculptures available to sponsor, or perhaps you’d like to see your design on a large sculpture. We’d love to talk to you before the end of October - you can find out more at
